SPOKANE, Wash. — No. 11 Saint Mary's remain perfect on the road (7-0) as they defeated Gonzaga 3-0 on Saturday for their fourth straight clean sheet of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jake Rudel put the Gaels up on the board in the 33rd minute of action when he received a solid pass from Anders Engebretsen to send the ball to the bottom right corner of the net from outside of the box. The tally was Rudel's sixth of the year and Engebretsen's eighth assist.
Joseph Restani tallied the Gaels' second goal of the match when he was fed the ball from Rudel to easily launch it past the goalie into the left side of the net in the 70th minute. The goal for Restani was his tenth of the year.
Engebretsen recorded his 12th goal of the year and third goal of the matchup when David Brog passed Engebretsen the ball to allow him to sneak the ball into the left side of the goal after it was deflected off a Zag defender. Engebretsen led the Gaels' offense with five total shots, with three coming on frame.
Saint Mary's had a potent defense during the contest as they prevented Gonzaga from taking any shots in the first half. Remi Prieur was not forced to make a save until the 52nd minute as he captured his tenth shutout of the season.
In the final 30 seconds of action, Lucas Andrews fired off a shot which sent the ball into the back of the net but was denied soon after due to an offsides call.
The Gaels outshot the Bulldogs 15-3 while tallying three corner kicks in the match.
