Biography

AS A SENIOR (2019): Started all 18 matches for the Gaels … named WCC Co-Player of the Year along with San Diego’s Miguel Berry … second Gael to ever earn Player of the Year honor … became the first Gael to ever be named to a First Team All-American by United Soccer Coaches … First Team All-Region and All-WCC … named to WCC All-Academic Team with a 3.73 GPA while studying economics … finalist for the CLASS Award … MAC Herman Award Watch List member … drafted in the fourth round of the MLS SuperDraft by FC Dallas … tied for first in the conference in assists with eight and was second in goals (16) and points (40) … fourth in the nation in total points and tied for seventh in goals scored … tied program record for goals scored in a season (Juan Guarda,  1990) and was one point shy of tying the single-season record for points … finished his career third in Gaels’ history in points scored (82), third in goals scored (32), and tied for second in assists (18) ...  named WCC Player of the Week twice in the first three weeks of the season … scored two hat tricks during the year against San Jose State on Sep. 9 and Portland on Nov. 16 … never went more than two matches without recording a point … began the year with two goals to lead SMC over a No. 25 UC Irvine team … led the team with 61 shots … went 8-for-8 on penalty kick opportunities … scored six game-winning goals … logged 1,324 minutes … named Saint Mary’s Student-Athlete of the Week once … chosen to All-WCC Preseason Team. 

AS A JUNIOR (2018):
Started in all 20 matches for the Gaels … named to the WCC All-Academic Team … selected to First Team All-WCC ... also earned a spot on the First Team in the All-West Region … named WCC Player of the Week ... earned the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor … led the conference in shots fired with 76 … tied for first in the conference in assists (6) … tied for second in the conference in points (24) … recorded nine goals during the season … logged over 1,500 minutes of play.

AS A SOPHOMORE (2017): Played in all 17 games during the year and made 10 starts … was second on the team with 10 points … named All-WCC Academic Honorable Mention … named WCC Player of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal against Denver … also scored the game-winning goal in the season finale against Portland … led the team with 34 shots taken … picked up two assists and took seven shots against Detroit Mercy … recorded points in back-to-back conference games against Santa Clara and USF … played a season-high 105 minutes against Detroit Mercy. 

AS A FRESHMAN (2016): Appeared in 10 matches for Saint Mary's including six starts … tied for first in goals on the team with four … recorded a two-goal game at home against Gonzaga in a 3-1 win … took 15 shots with six coming on net … made his first collegiate start in a 2-1 win over Pacific.

PRIOR TO SAINT MARY'S:  A 2015 graduate of Handelsgymnasium, one of the largest secondary schools in Oslo …  played club soccer for Heming throughout most of his youth before joining Skeid Fotball in 2015 … scored 21 goals in 35 matches for Heming in 2014 … helped lead team to 2013 league title and promotion and a third place result in 2014 … named player of the year three times while at Heming … scored 14 times in 26 matches for Skeid … son of Wenche and Adreas Engebretsen … has two sisters, Carine and Camilla Engebretsen … no relation to SMC signee Derik Engebretsen.

Adam Cooper on Anders:  “Anders is a very creative 1-v-1 player who will play either forward for winger in our program.  He is strong at creating scoring opportunities, either for himself or for others.”
