MORAGA, Calif. — No. 10 Saint Mary's closed out their season on Sunday as they fell 4-0 to No. 22 UC Santa Barbara in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite a defensive stand from both teams in the first 30 minutes of action, UC Santa Barbara took the lead in the 32nd minute when they scored the first goal of the contest off a header to put the Gauchos up 1-0. The Saint Mary's defense only allowed three other shots from UCSB in the first half of play. The Gauchos would go on to score three more goals in the second half to secure the victory.
Saint Mary's had multiple close scoring opportunities throughout the game including a shot from Valentin Kurz in the 35th minute when he launched the ball from the center of the box but just narrowly missed the goal as it went high to prevent the tiebreaker.

Svehlik and Jake Rudel led the team's offense with three shots a piece. Saint Mary's tallied 13 shots and two corner kicks in the contest while goalkeeper Remi Prieur made two saves.
Saint Mary's wraps up their 2019 campaign with a 16-2 overall record. Over the past two seasons, Saint Mary's has accumulated a 34-2-2 record with back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
