WTEN | Gaels Set for Action Versus Hawaii, USC

Saint Mary's will travel down south to face off against the Rainbow Wahine on Saturday and the Trojans on Sunday.

MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's women's tennis will hit the road to Los Angeles for a pair of contests as they will face off against Hawaii on Saturday and USC on Sunday.

ABOUT THE GAELS
The Gaels are coming off a hard-fought loss against Long Beach State last weekend as they picked up two points in singles play, but were ultimately overcome by the Beach with a final score of 4-2. Mariia Kozyreva led the team in the No. 1 singles spot as she cruised to a straight set 6-0, 6-0 victory over her opponent. Chloe Goyette collected the second point for the Gaels in singles action as she defeated her opposition in a 6-2, 7-5 win. Hind Abdelouahid and Kozyreva teamed up and recorded a 6-3 win in the No. 1 doubles seed, but Saint Mary's was unable to clinch the win as both duos in the second and third spots were narrowly defeated by the Beach.

ABOUT THE RAINBOW WAHINE
Hawaii currently holds a 3-3 overall record as they recently collected their third loss of the season against San Diego with a final score of 4-3. In singles play, Petra Melounova defeated her opponent in a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 win which is her fourth win of the season. The junior currently leads the team as she holds a 4-1 record in the No. 1 singles spot. Maayan Sela and Nikola Dolakova also recorded wins in straight sets during the contest against the Toreros. Hawaii duo Melounova/Dolakova managed to overcome their opposition in doubles action, but San Diego ultimately captured the doubles point.  

ABOUT THE TROJANS
USC (4-2) is going into Sunday's match against the Gaels coming off of a recent 5-2 loss to California. Danielle Wilson played a hard-fought match against her opposition as she easily won the first set, 6-1. The freshman Trojan lost the second set 3-6, but made a strong comeback in the third with a 6-4 victory to bring home the first point for USC. Ana Neffa competed against No. 69 Anna Bright from Cal and picked up a 6-4, 7-6 (9) win in the No. 4 singles slot for the Trojans. The USC tandem Kulikov/Valdes took on No. 28 duo Rosenqvist/Mraz and collected a 6-4 win on doubles courts.
