SB | Gaels Look to Play Six Games this Week

Saint Mary's will face off against Marist in a doubleheader at home on Wednesday then the Gaels will hit the road on Saturday for games against CSUN and UCLA over the weekend.

MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's will look to face off against three different teams this week and will play a total of six games. The Gaels will take on Marist for a doubleheader on Wednesday at Cottrell Field then SMC will travel down south over the weekend for a three game series against CSUN and a single contest against UCLA.

ABOUT MARIST
Marist is 8-9 overall so far this season and recently went 3-3 in the six game Capitol Classic last weekend. During the tournament, the Red Foxes defeated WCC-member Santa Clara in a 5-2 decision and also overcame Fairleigh Dickinson in both contests.

Only three Red Foxes are batting above .300 including the team leader, outfielder Ali Milam who leads Marist with a .426 average. As a team, the Red Foxes have a .267 batting average and  have recorded 121 hits with five home runs.

Calista Phippen leads the Red Foxes in the circle as she holds a 6-0 record with a 1.42 ERA in 44.1 innings pitched. The freshman has recorded 49 strikeouts and has only given up 19 walks and nine runs.

Prior to taking on Saint Mary's, Marist will travel to Reno, Nev. to face off against Nevada for a doubleheader on Tuesday.

ABOUT CSUN
CSUN hosted the CSUN/Loyola Marymount Tournament last weekend and went 2-2 with wins against Dartmouth and California Baptist. The Matadors are now 13-14 overall with a 4-3 at home record.

Outfielder Megan Stevens is CSUN's best bat this year with a .513 average and a .587 on-base percentage. As a team, CSUN has a .332 on-base percentage with 170 total hits.

Jillian James has led the Matadors with 98 innings pitched with a 2.76 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. The sophomore has tallied 126 strikeouts, which counts for more than half of the teams total strikeouts (172).

CSUN will look to play against Dartmouth and Fresno State before hosting Saint Mary's on Saturday.

ABOUT UCLA
UCLA currently sits in the No. 1 spot in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches and Softball America ranking lists as they hold a 25-1 overall record. The lone loss for the Bruins was against Michigan in a 3-1 decision during the Judi Garman Classic earlier this month.

The Bruins are coming off their first conference series of the season as they swept Washington State last weekend after collecting a total of 22 runs after all three games. As a team, UCLA has a .347 batting average and have smacked 27 home runs this year.

Briana Perez continues to lead the Bruins as she holds a .413 batting average with 92 at bats and a .439 on-base percentage. The infielder is a perfect 8-for-8 on stolen bases and has tallied 32 runs, which is the most for any Bruin this season.

In the circle, Rachel Garcia has been unstoppable with a 12-0 record in 77.1 innings pitched. The redshirt junior owns a 0.54 ERA which is good for fourth in the NCAA rankings list and ranks fifth with 128 total strikeouts.

Sunday's meeting will be the second time this season the Gaels and the Bruins will face off against each other.
