Cal Opener Results
BERKELEY, Calif. – The Gaels traveled to the other side of the tunnel on Saturday to compete in the Cal Opener and recorded a number of strong finishes.
For the women, Ellen Burbank placed third and ran a personal best by 36 seconds on Saturday in the 2000 meter steeplechase with a time of 7:21.38. Abby Bolt secured fourth place in the 1500 meter race (4:46.16) as Allie Timbrell (5:07.45) came in tenth and Ally Sullivan (5:13.34) came in eleventh in the same race. Emma McCarthy (2:20.76) and Ava Nkadi (2:26.63) placed fifth and ninth respectively in the 800 meter.
For the men's team, Samir Habash placed eighth in the 800 meter with a time of (1:59.97) followed by Michael Lopez who placed eleventh (2:04.32). Nolan Dozier was the lone runner in the 1500 meter race and recorded a time of 3:53.93 to place sixth. Four Gaels raced in the 3000 meter race as Moses Borjorquez nabbed seventh place with a race of 8:42.68. Mason Labadie was two seconds off a lifetime personal best (8:47.47) and placed tenth, while Tommy Bell placed 12th (8:48.48) and Alex Riggsby (8:54.75) placed 16th.
"We we're pretty happy with the results today," said head coach Marty Kinsey. "Whenever you have a team accomplish several lifetime best or they are starting ahead this time of year compared to where they were last year, is very encouraging for the season"
