Saint Mary's will travel to the Pacific Northwest this weekend as they will take on Portland and Gonzaga in a pair of WCC matches.
MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's (8-8, 4-1 WCC) will travel to the Pacific Northwest this weekend for a pair of West Coast Conference matches against Portland on Friday and Gonzaga on Saturday.
ABOUT SAINT MARY'S
The Gaels are coming off a shutout weekend as they defeated Pacific 5-0 and Sacramento State 4-0 on home courts. Saint Mary's was led by Mariia Kozyreva in both contests as she easily defeated her opposition as the top singles seed to improve her overall record to 10-3. Kozyreva and Hind Abdelouahid were the dynamic duo over the weekend as they claimed both victories as the No. 1 doubles seed and are now 7-1 overall.
Over the span of both matches, Saint Mary's defeated their opposition on all courts as they collected every point. As a team, the Gaels are 34-28 in singles action and hold a 18-19 record in doubles play.
ABOUT PORTLAND
The Pilots own a 7-9 overall record and are 2-4 in the WCC as they head into Friday's matchup against the Gaels. In their last pair of matchups, Portland dropped both contests as they fell 5-0 to Loyola Marymount and lost 4-0 to Pepperdine. Jelena Lukic has led the Pilots' efforts this season as the top singles player with a 6-5 overall record. Lukic and her partner Anna Oberg own a 4-5 record in the No. 1 doubles spot while Lourdes Ramalle and Emily Soares are 4-1 as the No. 2 seed.
ABOUT GONZAGA
The Bulldogs are 8-9 this season with a 3-3 conference record as they are coming off a 4-3 victory over Loyola Marymount last weekend. Gonzaga picked up two points in doubles action followed by three wins in singles to clinch the win. With a perfect 6-0 record at home, the Bulldogs are led by Sophie Whittle who holds a 10-4 record as the No. 1 singles seed. Whittle and Graciela Rosas are also at the forefront in doubles as they own a 12-2 record. Prior to hosting Saint Mary's, Gonzaga will look to take on Pacific at home on Friday.
