SB | Jayda Alaan to Play for Team Philippines

The Gaels' infielder will be playing for her home country this summer at multiple international events.

MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's rising junior Jayda Alaan will be competing with the Philippines national team this summer after successfully making the team out of a tryout earlier this month.

Alaan, who was born in the Philippines, will be competing at the USA World Cup during the first week of July and later at the Asia/Oceania Olympic Qualifying Event in China during September.

"We are so excited that Jayda has this opportunity to represent the Philippines and Saint Mary's," said Gaels' head coach Sonja Garnett. "We can't wait to watch her do great things with her team."

The infielder followed Garnett from ART U and immediately became a role player on the team while making 41 starts in 2019. Alaan led the team with a .424 on-base percentage partly due to her ability to draw hit by pitches of which she had 18. She also drew 14 free passes, had a team-high six sacrifices, and swiped five bags.

More information about the national team can be found on the Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines website or by clicking here.
