SB | Garnett Bolsters Coaching Staff With Two Additions

Gaels' head coach Sonja Garnett had added two assistant coaches for the upcoming season.

MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's softball head coach Sonja Garnett announced the addition of two new assistant coaches to her staff today to help the team during the 2020 season, Gordy Bravo and Tony Bari.

Bravo was a former standout at BYU where she played centerfield from 2013-16. She was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year as a junior when she batted .444 which still stands as the school's single-season record for batting average.

In her final two seasons, Bravo was named First Team All-WCC and helped the Cougars win the conference and reach the NCAA Regionals in all four seasons. In addition, the Corona, Calif. native is a member of the Mexican National Team who will be competing at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

"Coach Bravo is a talented athlete who has experience in our conference and will be competing for Team Mexico in the upcoming Olympics," said Garnett. "She will be an asset to our team and will focus on our outfielders and slap hitting."

Bari comes to the Gaels with ample coaching experience at the high school level. He is currently the head varsity coach at California High School in San Ramon and has also served as head varsity coach at Monte Vista in Danville. Last year, California finished in first place in their league and advanced to the CIF D1 NCS semifinals.

In total, Bari has spent time coaching youth softball and baseball for over 20 years.

"We are very fortunate to have Coach Bari join our staff," continued Garnett. "He has seen years of success as a head coach and will bring a fresh perspective to our staff."
