MSOC | No. 6 Gaels Back on the Road This Week

No. 6 Saint Mary's will play two matches in Las Vegas this week.
MORAGA, Calif. — No. 6 Saint Mary's will look to continue their hot streak as they will travel to Las Vegas this week for the Johann Memorial Classic with a pair of matches against UNLV and Utah Valley. The Gaels will face off against UNLV on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and then take on Utah Valley on Sunday at noon.

Saint Mary's is coming off an intense, nail-biting match against CSU Bakersfield last weekend. After a tough 94 minutes of soccer, Saint Mary's prevailed against the Roadrunners in overtime to win the match 3-2. Anders Engebretsen scored the game-winning goal off his own rebound to lift the Gaels over the Roadrunners.
Engebretsen remains atop the nation's offensive leaderboard as he ranks tied for first in goals with seven and is second in points with 16. With the win, the Gaels improved to 5-0 and now hold a 24-0-5 overall record in their past 29 matches.
ABOUT UNLV
The Rebels have a record of 2-4 this season and are coming off a split weekend as they defeated Pacific 2-0 but fell to San Francisco in a 1-0 decision. In the match against the Dons, the Rebels were held scoreless for the first time this season.
UNLV is led by Bryan Serrano-Martinez and Timo Mehlich who have each scored three goals a piece. Mehlich also leads the team in shots with with 20. Goalie Lukas Betz has posted 18 saves through four games with a save percentage of 0.750 at this point in the season.
Saint Mary's is 3-8-1 all-time against the Rebels. The last match between the two teams took place in 2016 and ended in a 4-1 victory in favor of the Gaels.
ABOUT UTAH VALLEY
The Wolverines enters the classic with a 2-1-1 record, having just come off a 4-3 win against Canisius in double overtime. In the contest, six of the seven total goals were scored in the second half and overtime. UVU notched 17 total shots compared to Canisius who tallied 11.
Alec Felix and Zach Maas have each recorded two goals for the Wolverines this season while Felix has also picked up two assists. In goal, Joseph Wheelwright has collected 11 saves in two games and has not recorded a loss so far this year.
The contest between Saint Mary's and Utah Valley will be the first meeting in program history between the two schools.
