MSOC | No. 6 Gaels Continue Unbeaten Streak With Win Over UNLV

Saint Mary's took a 2-0 result in Las Vegas on Thursday to move to 26-0-4 over their past 30 matches.

LAS VEGAS — No. 6 Saint Mary's extended their unbeaten streak to 30 straight games (26-0-4) on Thursday with an impressive 2-0 win over UNLV on the road. The Gaels' streak is the ninth longest ever in NCAA Div. I history and longest since Akron went undefeated in 38 straight matches from 2009-10.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Mary's (6-0) defense stepped up big on the road as they held UNLV (2-5) to just four shots in the entire match, a season-best for the Gaels' backline. The Rebels didn't record a shot until the 36th minute of the match and managed only two attempts on goal.

Younes Dayehk, who transferred from Bradley this summer, scored his first goal as a Gael in the 52nd minute to give Saint Mary's a 1-0 lead. After taking a pass on the left side from Sebastian Schacht, Dayehk fired a laser into the upper left corner off his left foot for the eventual game-winning goal.

Joseph Restani also scored his first goal of the season in the 69th minute by depositing his close range shot into the lower right corner to give the Gaels an insurance tally. Restani was tied for third on the team last season with six scores. Jakub Svehlik earned his team-leading fourth assist on the goal.

Remi Prieur earned his sixth win in goal and made his best save of the match in the 57th minute as the Rebels got a head on a cross that forced the senior to dive backwards on a ball over his head. The header was the only grade-A scoring opportunity for UNLV in the match as Saint Mary's defenders gave their opposition little room to work with.

Thursday's shutout was the fourth clean sheet of the season for the Gaels. Saint Mary's was tied for first in the nation last season in shutouts with Indiana but in four less matches.

THOUGHTS FROM ADAM COOPER
  • "That was a tough game against a quality opponent with some difficult elements. Our guys did well to find some quality in the two goals we scored and it was nice to get back to a shutout."
UP NEXT: UTAH VALLEY
