Anders Engebretsen was named the first men's soccer POTW this year after a two goal performance against UCI.
SAN BRUNO, Calif. — No. 11 Saint Mary's forward Anders Engebretsen has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week for his two-goal performance against No. 25 UC Irvine on Friday.
Engebretsen was the season's first WCC POTW last year as well after scoring four goals and adding an assist in the Gaels' opening week of play.
The senior's two tallies against the Anteaters were the only scores of the game in the Gaels' 2-0 win. Engebretsen scored the first goal on a penalty kick after Jake Rudel drew a foul in the box and then scored his second just seven minutes later when he knocked in his own rebound.
Engebretsen is on pace early to match last year's impressive 24-point campaign (nine goals, six assists). The Norweigan led the WCC in shots per game last year and was tied for second in points behind only Rudel.
Saint Mary's continues their season today as they face Omaha in Moraga at noon. Links for the game can be found on the team's schedule page. Tickets can be purchased here or at the stadium entrance one hour prior to the match.
