BASE | Saint Mary's Records 11-1 Victory Over Nevada

MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary's picked up their fourth-straight victory on Wednesday after taking a 10-run win against Nevada.

EARLY INNING SUCCESS
The Wolfpack struck first on Wednesday as Dillan Shrum sent a home run over the right field wall to put the first run of the day on the board. After that, it was all Saint Mary's as Jacob Talamante tripled to lead off the bottom of the first inning followed by a sacrifice fly from Nico Lima that scored Talamante from third. In the third inning, Ryan Novis recorded his first home run of the season as he sent a long ball over the right field wall that scored himself and Talamante who had walked in the previous at-bat to put SMC up 3-1.

GETTING BETTER WITH TIME
The Gaels broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth when they scored five runs on three hits including an RBI double from Chris Santiago, a two-run single from Kyle Velazquez and an RBI single from Talamante. SMC did not score again until the bottom of the eighth when Nevada got into pitching trouble with two outs; two Gael batters in a row were hit by pitches followed by two consecutive walks and a bunt which drove in two runs. The following run was then walked in as well to put Saint Mary's up 11-1 before the Wolfpack was able to get out of the inning.

FROM THE RUBBER
Senior Andrew Hansen got his first start of the season against Nevada which also ended up being his longest outing of the year thus far. Hansen went 5.0 complete innings while only allowing three hits and striking out seven batters. Despite giving up a home run in the top of the first inning, Hansen was able to shut down Nevada's offense and didn't allow any other extra base hits on the day. Nathan Schneider came in to pitch the sixth inning and allowed one hit while striking out one batter. Ryan Sanders pitched his second appearance of the year against Nevada as he tossed the final inning of the game, allowing one hit and striking out two batters.

PUT ME IN COACH
Freshman Christopher Campos filled multiple roles on Wednesday including third baseman and batter, as well as pitcher. During the bottom of the seventh, Campos was subbed in from third base to pitch relief for Milton Vrionis in the middle of the inning. He went on to pitch 1.2 innings without giving up a hit and striking out a batter.
