Box Score CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Saint Mary's Men's Soccer team (8-4-1, 1-0-1) couldn't quite slow down the scoring punch of the #13 team in the country as Oregon State (8-1-2, 3-0-1) defeated the Gaels 4-0 in a non-conference match up Friday night.
The Beavers struck quickly in the 14th minute as a cross into the six-yard box found Oregon State's Adrian Crespo in between a pocket of defenders and he slid down to a knee to redirect it in with his right foot for a 1-0 Beavers lead.
Â
In the 22nd minute a long pass that looked offsides to the Gaels set up Adrian Molina-Diaz behind the Saint Mary's defense and he blasted a left-footed shot across the goal mouth at point-blank range to put Oregon State up 2-0.
Â
The Gaels had an opportunity to cut it to a one-goal game in the 34th minute.
Gael Quintero forced a takeaway in the Gaels defensive end and
Riley Lynch scooped it up and raced through the Beavers defense. Lynch and
Valentin Kurz executed a beautiful give-and-go and when Lynch got it back he drew a penalty in the box. But on the penalty shot,
Sebastian Schacht's blistering attempted to the lower-left corner of the goal was stopped on a miraculous, diving attempt by the Oregon State keeper to preserve the shutout.
Â
Oregon State wasted no time expanding their lead in the second half. In the 47th minute Tyrone Mondi had space in the penalty area and boomed a left-footed shot into the upper right corner of the net to make it 3-0 Oregon State. In the 64th minute a long lead to Tyrone Mondi set him up perfectly in the 18-yard box and got the Gaels defenders twisted around as he scored his second goal of the night on a right-footed shot at the edge of the six-yard box.
