WTEN | Kozyreva Continues Strong Play in Loss to No. 24 Cardinal

STANFORD, Calif. — Saint Mary's Mariia Kozyreva continued her terrific spring play on Thursday at No. 24 Stanford by picking up a straight set win over another ranked opponent. The Gaels fell to the Cardinal 6-1 to move to 2-3 this season with all three losses coming against ranked opponents.
Saint Mary's picked up one win in doubles on Court 3. Jocelyn Massey and Aubane Ville teamed up for a close 7-5 victory while Kozyreva and Danielle McIntyre were narrowly defeated 6-4 on Court 1.
No. 17 Kozyreva finished first in singles with a dominating 6-1, 6-0 performance against Stanford's top player No. 63 Emily Arbuttnott. The Gaels' senior is now 4-0 this season in singles play with two wins over ranked opponents.
Unfortunately the Gaels' other five singles players did not have as much luck as Stanford swept the matches on Courts 2 through 5.
SMC gets back to action on March 20 at San Jose State. First serve is scheduled for noon.
