MSOC | No. 21 Gaels Blank San Diego in 2OT Draw

SAN DIEGO — No. 21 Saint Mary's (2-0-1, 0-0-1 WCC) completed their third clean sheet of the season on Sunday with a double overtime draw on the road at San Diego (1-1-1, 0-1-1).

Neither team scored in the match but the Gaels outshot USD, 14-10. Saint Mary's attack was relentless in the second overtime session with five shot attempts taken in the 10-minute period.

SMC secured their third shutout of the year by limiting the Toreros to just three shots on goal in the entire match. Additionally, Saint Mary's did well to keep the ball out of their defensive third by allowing only three USD corner kicks.

Louis Sterobo and Lucas Andrews led the offense with three shots and two shots on goal each. Nicholas Lapinid played all 110 minutes in goal to claim his second clean sheet this year.

San Diego was whistled for 23 fouls in the match compared to just 13 for the Gaels. A total of five yellow cards were also issued between the two teams in the highly physical match.

UP NEXT: GONZAGA
The Gaels return home to host Gonzaga next Sunday on Mar. 14. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and the match will be live streamed on the WCC Network.
