MORAGA, Calif. — The Gaels (4-11, 1-3 WCC)went toe-to-toe with Santa Clara on Saturday at Korth Tennis Complex but came up just short in a tight, 4-3 loss.

The Broncos (4-6, 1-3 WCC) earned the doubles point with two wins in the 6-3 variety. On Court 2, Damon Kesaris and Fabian Roensdorf were tied 5-5 with their opponents before the match was called.

Santa Clara stretched their lead to 3-0 after picking up wins on Courts 4 and 2, respectively. Saint Mary's battled back however with three straight victories coming from Matis Bot on Court 3, Caelan Potts in straight sets in the No. 5 slot and the team's top player Kesaris in three sets, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.

The final and deciding match came down to SMC's Felipe Rincon and SCU's Santiago Hinojosa on Court 6. The match went to three sets but eventually Hinojosa emerged victorious 6-2 in the third set to win the contest for Santa Clara.

The Gaels return to play on Friday as they take on Pepperdine in Malibu. The match begins at 1 p.m.
