SAN MATEO, Calif. — The West Coast Conference has announced its final All-Academic team from the 2020-21 season, and it comes from the softball field. Gaels Softball found themselves well-represented on the list, with
Hannah Chew taking home First Team honors from the conference while four others were named All-Academic Honorable Mention for their work on the field and in the classroom.

Chew has been one of the leaders of the softball team during her time at Saint Mary's, and she capped off the 2021 season with a .268 average in 32 games, making 31 starts behind the plate. She homered once and drove in 11 runs, while being the only Gael to walk (15) more times than she struck out (8). Chew is not only a standout on the field but she also puts in work in the classroom, carrying a 3.91 GPA as a Management and Technology major.

Four Gaels found themselves earning Honorable Mention nods from the conference following their strong 2021 seasons.
Indya Smith was the lone Gael to make First Team All-WCC and her 3.34 GPA as a Communications major was good enough to land her with All-Academic honors.
Sofia Earle was Second Team All-WCC this year for her 2.92 ERA inside the circle, and also holds a 3.40 GPA as an Economics major.
Kayla Scott held a 3.75 ERA as the second-most utilized pitcher this year for SMC, and qualifies with her 3.20 GPA as a Kinesiology-Exercise Science major. Rounding out the list is
Bry Waters, who swiped four bases this year, and her 3.67 GPA as a Sport and Recreation Management major.

To make the All-Academic Team, student-athletes be of at least sophomore status and must maintain a cumulative 3.20 grade point average while contributing significantly to their team.
