MORAGA, Calif. — Fresh off a successful, COVID-shortened season, the Saint Mary's men's soccer program will take the pitch for a complete 19-match schedule, including one exhibition, this fall. Saint Mary's will look to continue their recent streak of dominance as they own the nation's best record across the previous three seasons at 40-4-3.
The Gaels kick off their schedule with an exhibition against Div. II Sonoma State on Aug. 22 at home at 1 p.m. The team then begins non-conference play with another home match against Cal on Aug. 26 at 1 p.m. The contest represents the first time the Golden Bears have visited Moraga for a regular season affair since 2003.
SMC will also play their next three matches at home. The Gaels host Cal Poly on Aug. 30, UNLV on Sept. 3, and finally Dixie State on Sept. 6. The first two matches will be played at 4 p.m. while the last match takes place at 1 p.m.
Head coach Adam Cooper and his team will travel to Grand Canyon for their first road game on Sept. 10. After a quick return home to face San Jose State on the 13th at 4 p.m., the Gaels get back on the road for back-to-back matches at UC Davis on Sept. 16 and Sacramento State on Sept. 19.
Saint Mary's rounds out September with a home match versus CSUN on Sept. 24 before traveling across the bay to square off against Stanford on Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. The last time Saint Mary's and Stanford met was in Moraga in the third round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament in an epic match that went into penalty kicks in front of 3,000 fans.
West Coast Conference action starts on Oct. 2 at home against Portland with a 1 p.m. kickoff and continues seven days later when the Gaels travel to San Francisco for a match on the 9th. Saint Mary's will sprinkle in their final non-conference match the next week with a trip to Oregon State on Oct. 15.
The Gaels play two consecutive home games after their meeting with the Beavers. SMC will welcome Pacific on Saturday, Oct. 23 before hosting Santa Clara in a mid-week matchup on the 27th.
Loyola Marymount is the next WCC opponent on the schedule for the Gaels with the match taking place in Los Angeles on Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. SMC plays their final league road match the ensuing weekend when they travel to Spokane to meet the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Nov. 6.
The regular season concludes one week later with Senior Day in Moraga against San Diego on Nov. 13. The contest begins at 1 p.m. and will be the final time Saint Mary's takes the pitch before the announcement of the NCAA Tournament field.
