MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's has added another talented freshman to their roster in anticipation for next season with the signing of Jena Amador. Amador is a catcher from California High School in Whittier, Calif.
At California High, Amador lettered in softball all four years and was team captain from her sophomore season forward. In her second year on the team, she batted .419 and caught nearly 50 percent of would-be base stealers. She backed up that performance with a .536 batting average during a COVID-shortened junior season and wrapped up her high school career by hitting .435 as a senior.
Amador was the Del Rio League MVP as a senior as well as All-Area First Team honoree. She was also named MVP of her team following her sophomore campaign and was chosen to the Del Rio League First Team. Academically, she placed on her school's honor roll twice.
The Whittier native was recruited by North Dakota, Texas Southern, Drexel, Northern Colorado, and Southern Utah but ultimately chose Saint Mary's citing the family-feel to the program, rural campus, and the opportunity for a great, Catholic education.
Amador will study biology at SMC and hopes to pursue a career in nursing or marine biology after graduation.
