MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's Men's Soccer (7-3) will host the Portland Pilots (5-4) for their first West Coast Conference game of the season. The program will also have special activities during the weekend to celebrate their alumni.

LAST TIME OUT
The Saint Mary's Men's Soccer Team won a thriller at Stanford on Monday night in the 106th minute on Philippe Van der Lof's game-winning goal. A corner kick from Riley Lynch was handled by Jayden Smileski who fed Van der Lof on the left side of the net and he banged it home from seven yards out. The Gaels stormed the field and mobbed the senior from Waalwijk, Netherlands after the sudden-death victory against the Cardinal.
ABOUT PORTLAND
The Pilots come into Moraga 5-4 on the season after being picked third in the WCC prior to the season. Senior and sophomore midfielders Jake Arteaga and Nick Fernandez were both named to the 2021 Preseason All-WCC Men's Soccer Team.
Goalkeeper George Tasouris joined the Pilots from Grand Canyon University as a grad transfer with a year of eligibility remaining. Tasouris was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-Conference First Team honors after leading GCU to its first ever WAC regular season title. He allowed only six goals during the regular season and posted a goals against average of just 0.86. The Cyprus, Greece native was named to MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List for the 2021 season which goes to the nation's top player.
The Pilots bring back quite a few returners and brought in a highly-rated recruiting class with Top Drawer Soccer having Portland as the team with the second-best recruiting class in the nation.
The Gaels are 13-8-2 against the Pilots going back to 2002. Saint Mary's has won the last four meetings between the University of Portland and six of the last seven contests between the two.
