OJAI, Calif. – Saint Mary's Women's Tennis hung tight against the University of San Diego in what ended up a 4-1 loss in the first round of the WCC Tournament on Thursday, though the Gaels were in it the whole way.

SMC took control early with dominant wins in the first two doubles matches to capture the doubles point. Jocelyn Massey and Olivia Rook earned a 6-0 win at the No. 3 spot, while Jordan Harris and Mariia Kozyreva recorded a 6-1 win at the No. 1 spot to secure the point.
 
The Toreros responded with four consecutive victories to win the match and advance in the tournament. But two of those matches went to three sets in Kozyreva's 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 battle against Solymar Colling and Massey unfinished match against Abigail Desiatnikov stood at 5-7, 6-1, 1-1 when it was called.
 
San Diego will face second-seeded LMU on Friday in the semifinals.
