LAST TIME OUT (MEN)
With the women taking the weekend off, Saint Mary's Track sent the men to Hartnell College in Salinas to race in the Central Coast Open, hosted by the Panthers. Primarily, the men raced in the 800m and 1500m, with several Gaels posting personal bests and season bests despite the blustery conditions on the Central Coast. Curtis Volf was the fastest Gael in the 800m, finishing in third place overall with a solid field of competitors surrounding him, and a host of fellow Gaels racing in the event. Volf was one of seven Gaels to finish the 800m in under 2:00, with Derek D'Amelia, Peyton Fox, Blaine Reynolds, Anthony Vazques, Thomas Osborne, and Jacob Bravo all posting times under the two-minute mark. Eight Gaels tried their hand at the 1500m, with Chung posting the best time overall. He finished eighth in the 1500m with a time of 4:10.44, representing the second peronsal best that he posted on the afternoon.
LAST TIME OUT (WOMEN)
The women haven't been in action since April 16 at the Johnny Mathis Invitational in San Francisco. Most of the women that competed ran in the 1500m, with three Gaels taking their turn across two heats. Dani Rowlison made her first appearance of the 2022 track season after returning from injury, and she was the leading Gael in the 1500m. The freshman out of England finished in third place in her heat with a time of 4:59.44, finishing within one second of second place. Aushmitha Grewal also ran in that heat and finished with a time of 5:01.77, good for sixth in the heat. Alyssa Escay was in the fourth heat, and her time of 5:00.73 was fast enough to land inside the top-five. Escay ran multiple times on the day, also finishing inside the top-20 overall in the 800m with a time of 2:31.26. Trinity Santana was the lone other female Gael to run, competing in the 3000m steeplechase and finishing in sixth place with her time of 12:09.06, her second-highest overall finish in the event this year.
