MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary's Athletics began construction on Br. Ronald Gallagher Stadium in early September, and will take the home ballpark of the Gaels' baseball program to a whole new level.

After breaking ground last week, the new stadium is expected to be ready for 2023 season, and will include permanent stadium seating, a press box, and a covered landing with drink rail will be at the top of both sides of the grandstand. The naming of Br. Ronald Gallagher Stadium commemorates the former president of Saint Mary's from 2005-13 and his impact on the unprecedented success of Saint Mary's College Athletics.

Fans who were used to the former bleacher seating behind the home plate area will see major upgrades to the tune of 14 rows of built-in seating that amounts to 648 permanent stadium seats at the new complex. The seats are scheduled to be installed by mid-November.

At the top of this structure will be a brand-new press box for the production crew. An open area at the top of the grandstand on the first base side will act as somewhat of a covered patio.
In addition to the new seating structure, the entrance to the baseball facility will be upgraded, with an archway that features three openings. A similar design will be implemented on the backside of the seating structure. The facility will also include a new four-speaker sounds system.

"The shovel is in the ground for what will be one of the most impressive college baseball settings on the West Coast," said Head Baseball Coach Greg Moore. "It's been a team effort by Saint Mary's supporters and the administration. Soon proud alums will be back at games and families from this area will be in the in those stands. That will the magic of Br. Ron Gallagher Stadium. This is an exciting day."

Some of those proud alums include four current Major League Baseball players and several prospects in MLB farm systems. Coach Moore had three of his players selected in the MLB Draft this past summer, and Saint Mary's is the only collegiate baseball program to have two players in the MLB All-Star Game and two players in the Future's Game during All-Star Weekend.

The 2023 season will begin in mid-February for the Gaels and WCC play slated to start in mid-March. To make a donation in support of Br. Ronald Gallagher Stadium, please click here.
