BASE | Gaels Take Down Spartans in San Jose

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Saint Mary's Baseball used nine pitchers and scored eight runs on 11 hits to get the mid-week win in San Jose, 8-3 over the Spartans.
A solo home run put San Jose State on the board first in the bottom of the second, but that would be the last time the Gaels would trail.
SMC got their own solo home runs on back-to-back blasts by Jerad Mettam and Dalton Mashore in the top of the third to make it 2-1 Saint Mary's. The long-ball parade continued in the fourth when Coleman Schmidt hit the longest homer of the day for the Gaels after a Nathan Chong single, and it was 4-1 SMC in the fourth.
The Spartans got a run back in the sixth to make it 4-2, but then Saint Mary's went to small ball to extend their lead.
Chong hit an infield single deep behind the bag at second to score Gavin Napier and Nick Mistone reached on a fielder's choice that scored Christian Almanza to make it 6-2 SMC.
The Gaels would tack on two more in the eighth when Almanza doubled in Mashore and Ralston singled through the right side to score Almanza and it was 8-2 Saint Mary's. The Spartans would hit a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth, but wouldn't score again in the Gaels 8-3 win.
Adam Enyart got the win after getting the Gaels out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth.
