MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's softball is excited to announce the addition of Iris Bejarano as the newest commit to the program. Bejarano continues a recent trend of recruiting student-athletes from the Central Coast, but she has Bay Area ties at the collegiate level.
Bejarano is a corner infielder who stands at 5'4", currently playing at Holy Names University in Oakland. The Hawks program will be closing at the end of the season, giving Bejarano a chance to transfer to a DI softball program. She is hitting .321 on the season for Holy Names as a freshman, with a home run and five runs batted in. Her breakout game came just three games into her career, when she went 4-4 with a double and a home run against Cal State East Bay.
A native of Salinas, California, Bejarano graduated from Salinas High School in 2022. She had a great career for the Cowgirls, establishing herself as one of the premiere power hitters in the league. She hit .422 during her senior season with an on-base percentage of .500, driving in 22 runs for Salinas. She was named All-PCAL and All-Monterey County following the season.
"Iris is a big offensive addition to our roster," says head coach Sonja Garnett. "She is a natural leader on the field and is a great player and teammate. Iris will fit in well with our culture and we are excited to have her join us here at Saint Mary's."
The Gaels will begin a nine-game home stand on Tuesday, April 4 when they welcome in UC Davis for a midweek doubleheader, beginning at 12:00 pm. Conference play commences later that weekend against San Diego, beginning on Friday, April 7. Stay tuned to SMCGaels.com for further updates to the schedule.
