

TRK | Gaels Fly in Final Day at Mike Fanelli Classic

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – With the shorter events on deck for the final day of the Mike Fanelli Classic, the Saint Mary's Track and Field teams brought the speed, as a handful of runners posted big personal best times.
The women's 800m got the action underway for SMC on a sunny afternoon in the city by the bay. Klara Frih was the quickest Gaels, finishing 20th out of 103 runners with a time of 2:14.44.
Penelopea Gordon crossed the line next for the Gaels, finishing 38th in a time of 2:17.32. Lotte Van Schaik finished soon after, claiming 87th in a time of 2:28.20. Piper Kunesh rounded out the field for SMC, as she claimed 103rd in a time of 2:45.00.
On the men's side, two Gaels finished inside the top-20 in a field of 121. Leading the way was Jason Habash, as he stormed home to finish 18th in a personal best time of 1:54.90. Reinder Prince wasn't far behind Habash, crossing the line in 20th in a time of 1:54.96, a two second improvement from his 800m two weeks ago at the Cardinal Classic.
Next to finish for Saint Mary's was Eric Martinez, crossing the line in a time of 1:56.8, as he too dropped time from his last 800m.
Jackson Seubert finished next for SMC, as he claimed 75th in a 2:00.14. Two more Gaels wrapped up the event, as Isaiah Jimenez finished 102nd in a time of 2:06.63, and Raphael Lobo in 115th in a time of 2:10.86.
The events kept getting shorter as they day went on, with the 400m next.
Jaden DeSouza brought the speed for SMC, finishing 3rd out of 44 runners in the event. She smashed her previous personal best of 1:00.39, as she dipped under the one-minute mark with a 58.86.
Maddie Fletcher also snuck in the top-20, as she claimed 17th with a time of 1:01.09. Kaitlin rounded out the field for SMC, finishing 38th in a time of 1:06.39.
In the women's 100m, three Gaels competed in the shorter discipline of the afternoon. All the runners finished one right after another, with Emily Quinby in 51st with a 4.62, McKenna Burrows in 52nd with a 14.63, and Natalia Nathan in 53rd with a 14.73.
In the last event of the day, the Gaels competed in the 1600 sprint medley relay. The relay requires two 200m legs, followed by a 400m and 800m leg. The SMC women were the best of the lot, winning the event in a time of 4:12.39. A relay consisting of Maddie Fletcher, Jaden DeSouza, Klara Frih, and Penelopea Gordon took home the win, outpacing the University of Hawaii by seven seconds.

Saint Mary's will be back on track next weekend as they head to Berkeley for the Brutus Hamilton Invitational on April 8.
