LAST TIME OUT
At the Mike Fanelli Classic last weekend, numerous Gaels posted lifetime bests across a handful of different distances.
The day got started with the 1500m early Friday morning.
Out of 163 runners in the event, junior Molly Dreher finished 10th overall with a time of 4:31.87. Jiana Cortero was next to cross the line for the Gaels, finishing in 122nd in a time of 5:02.10. Aushmitha Grewal rounded out the women's side, claiming 144th in a time of 5:18.97.
In the men's 1500m eight Gaels competed in the discipline. Grad student Reinder Prince was the quickest of the SMC men, finishing 40th out of 150 runners in a time of 3:59.58. A trio of Gaels weren't far behind, as Eric Martinez snatched 60th, Noah Pagaran in 62nd, and Jason Habash in 64th. Martinez finished in a time of 4:03.61, Pagaran (4:04.12) and Habash (4:04.22).
The 5000m was the next event up, and the Gaels did not disappoint. The women were up first, as four Gaels competed in the distance. All the runners competed in the event for the first time this season, with many coming away with best times.
Dani Rowlinson led the way for SMC, finishing 11th out of 115 runners in a time of 16:51.68. Rowlinson's time was the fastest 5000 in SMC history on the women's side, as the grad student smashed her previous best by one minute.
Next to cross the line for the Gaels was Kaylee Barnes, who finished 50th in a time of 17:37.75 Her time was also a one-minute best from her best high school time.
Sofia Cuevas was next, finishing 76th in a time of 18:09.73, just a second off her PR. Anna Ranieri wasn't far behind in 83rd, finishing in a time of 18:20.81, a 22 second personal best as well.
In the men's 5000m, a host of Gaels competed in the long-distance event. Like many of the women, this was the first time many of the young Gaels have competed in the 5K.
Cayden Hein and Richard McLain were the quickest of the bunch for SMC, as they finished back-to-back in 77th and 78th. Hein finished in a time of 15:13.81, with McLain right behind with a 15:13.91.
RAYNA ON THE RUN
While the rest of the SMC Track and Field team was busy competing at the Mike Fanelli Classic in San Francisco, junior Rayna Stanziano was down south in Palo Alto competing at the Stanford Invite.
Stanziano traveled to the event to compete in the women's 5k, which took place throughout Friday. A handful of heats competed in the morning while Stanziano's heat competed at night.
The junior finished 14th in a heat of 16, as she crossed the line in a time of 16:22.24. Although not her best run of the season, her time was her second fastest 5k ever, leaving plenty of room to improve as the meets continue to come thick and fast throughout the remainder of the spring.
