MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary's Men's Soccer has announced their full fall schedule for the 2023 season with nine home games in their 17-game slate.
Â
NON-CONFERENCE SLATE
The Gaels will get to play five-straight regular-season games in the friendly confines of Saint Mary's Stadium to open the season, seven if you include two exhibitions before the regular season begins.
Â
SMC will open the regular season by playing Detroit Mercy for the just the third time in program history, and for the first time since 2018. The Gaels are 1-0-1 in those two meetings, including a 2-0 win over the Titans in 2018.
Â
Saint Mary's will have their first-ever meetings with UTAH Tech on August 27, Dartmouth on September 1, and with Farleigh Dickinson on September 4 in stretch of first-time opponents. FDU went 10-6-3 overall last season and 6-0-2 in Northeast Conference Play, before a 5-2 loss to Maryland in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Â
They'll round out their opening home stand hosting local foe San Jose State, before heading south to take on UC Irvine and coming back north to play at Sacramento State and at UC Davis.
Â
The Gaels finish their non-conference schedule -- and a stretch of four-straight road games -- by taking on the Stanford Cardinal down on The Farm on September 23 at 7:00 p.m. The Cardinal finished last season ranked No. 7 overall after a second-round loss in the NCAA Tournament to No. 12 North Carolina Greensboro in PKs.
Â
There is one non-conference game mixed in with the conference slate when they go east to Miami to take on Florida International on October 14. The Panthers advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament last year before being eliminated by No. 3 Duke 1-0.
Â
WCC SCHEDULE
Conference play will start on September 30 when the Gaels host Santa Clara, who SMC tied last year 1-1. That's followed by a home match against 2022 WCC Champion San Diego on October 7.
The Gaels will play under the lights in Spokane on October 21 at 6:00 p.m. before coming back home to host Pacific on October 25. Those two games begin a pattern of alternating home and road games, with SMC going playing at San Francisco on October 28, hosting Portland on November 4, and finishing the season at rival LMU on November 11. The Gaels finished just ahead of the Lions in the final WCC standings, and always plays a spirited match against their rivals from Los Angeles.
