WTEN | Gaels Competed in Their Last Fall Tournament of the Season

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Saint Mary's Women's Tennis team competed in their last fall tournament at the SDSU Fall Classic where they matched with teams they have not seen yet this fall such as SDSU, USD, and Colorado State.
Olivia Rook led the Gaels as she reached the championship match in the singles draw, going 2-1 overall for the weekend. Rook defeated UCSD Katelyn Vu 6-4, 6-1 and SDSU Roesch 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Juliette Daries also went 2-1 at the SDSU Fall Classic only coming up short on Friday. She defeated Colorado State Zhadzinskaya 6-7(5), 7-5, 11-9, and Silvia Costache from Nevada 6-3, 6-4.
Tiana Fox made her debut as a Gael in the double draw as she was paired with Rook and went 2-1 for the weekend. The duo defeated UCSD duo 6-4 and Eastern Washington pair 7-5, and only fell short to Stanford duo.
MiaAngelina Ruja got 3 matches under her belt after not competing since May as she went 1-2 against tough opponents. Her last match was a challenge. Ruja overcame this battle after she lost the first set 0-6, won the second 6-3, and forced a third set for the tie breaker. She fell short in the tiebreaker 5-10.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Gaels will take the next few months to prepare for the Cal Winter Invite that begins on January 10th and ends on January 12th, hosted by Cal Berkeley. Soon after SMC will begin their spring season with a home opener against UC Davic on January 25th.
