3/17/2024 4:28:00 PM | Women's Beach Volleyball
SAN JOSE, Calif. — The Gaels (8-7) took to the sand two more times on Saturday at Spartan Beach, taking on the host Spartans (6-7) before playing the Sierra College Wolverines in an exhibition affair. The Gaels and Spartans went down to the final set, with San Jose State narrowly edging out Saint Mary's 3-2. In the exhibition, the Gaels made quick work of the Wolverines, winning 5-0.
Karmin Brown and AJ Slojkowski picked up where they left off yesterday, opening the day with a quick 21-9, 21-11 victory over the Spartans #4 pair. Out of the five spot, Nya Crump and Paola Peralta rallied back from a deficit in the second set to take it 22-20, but fell 15-8 in the decisive third set. Down 2-1, Hawley Harrer and Hannah Couch, playing in the three spot for the first time this season, took care of business, as the match hinged on the top pairings for both sides. The Spartans set the tone early, taking the first set 21-9, and while Sedona Sherman and Sadie Shipman rallied in the second set, they ultimately fell 21-18, giving the Spartans the 3-2 victory.
The Gaels then swept the Sierra Wolverines in their exhibition match. Paola Peralta and Cameron Martinez played together for just the second time in 2024 and started the Gaels off with a quick victory that set the tone for the second match. Playing in the one spot, Sedona Sherman and Sadie Shipman showed fortitude in the second set, coming from behind to take it 23-21 to complete their two set win. Karmin Brown and AJ Slojkowski finished the weekend unbeaten.
The Gaels will next be in action again on Friday, March 23, taking on San Francisco in Marin before heading home to take on Pacific.
