SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Redshirt sophomore Kate Plachy has been putting up career numbers in goal this season and after recording her seventh shutout of the season on Saturday, she was named this week's WCC Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week and a program record fourth time this season.
#11 Kate Plachy | GK | WCC Defensive Player of the Week
Saint Mary's is on a heater as they are unbeaten over their last eight games, their longest streak since 2001, and are now 2-0-1 in conference play after their 1-0 road win over LMU. It has been a total team effort this season but a big part of the Gaels success has been Kate Plachy in goal. Plachy leads the WCC and ranks 8th in all of Division I with seven shutouts and has a career low 0.700 Goals Against Average this season, good for third lowest in the conference.
Plachy recorded just two saves in their one-goal victory over the Lions but helped improve their unbeaten streak to eight games, the program's longest streak since 2001. Plachy has now played and started in all ten games this season, recording 42 saves, seven shutouts, a 0.857 save percentage and a career low 0.700 goals against average.
The Gaels are back in action at home this week, taking on Washington State on Wednesday, October 8th at 4:00 PM. Tickets can be bought online at smcgaels.com/tickets and the match can be streamed live on ESPN+.
