SAN FRANCISCO — Saint Mary's Men's Track competed in five different events at the Johnny Mathis Invitational in San Francisco, winning four of them and accumulating enough points to finish in fourth place out of the 13 team field. 10 different PRs were recorded as the Gaels historic 2025 campaign continues to roll on.
On the track, the day began with the 1500m race. There, sophomore Ethan Gray stole the show with a seventh place finish, breaking the four minute mark for the first time in his competitive collegiate career with a time of 3:59.52. Curtis Volf would also score for the Gaels, coming in at ninth with a time of 4:00.77. Aidan Donovan (24th, 4:05.81), Luther Hart (37th, 4:09.21) and Troy Coulston (51st, 4:16.22) each also hit PRs in the race.
The 800m race saw the Gaels Alexandro Alvarez and Jason Habash finish 1-2, with freshman Daniel Martinez not far behind in fifth. Alvarez, Habash and Martinez all finished sub two minutes in that race. Alvarez threw down a very impressive time of 1:53.40, a new PR, with Habash just 0.33 seconds behind him. Martinez also hit a PR mark of 1:56.70. Other PRs in that race include Moss Michelsen (18th, 2:00.13), Gus Hollister (25th, 2:01.43) and Zach Zlobinsky (37th, 2:04.34).
The Gaels took home first out of the three teams competing in the 4x400m, as Noah Pagaran, Jason Habash, Alexandro Alvarez and Daniel Martinez combined for a time of 3:26.89. Last, but certainly not least, thrower Gavin Voskamp won both the shotput and discus throws, with a PR in the shotput of 14.72m.
Saint Mary's will next be in action at Stanford next week for the Payton Jordan.
