WTEN | Gaels Wrap Up 2025 Campaign with Sweep of Northern Illinois

ROME, Ga. - Saint Mary's fell to 48th ranked UNC Charlotte in the first round of the NIT Championships on Wednesday but ended the season on a high note with a consolation match victory over Northern Illinois to finish the 2025 season with a 7-14 overall record. The Gaels picked up their first match win since April 11th and did so in dominant fashion with their third sweep of the season, downing the Huskies 4-0.
Saint Mary's took the doubles point with wins from MiaAngelina Ruja/Madison Weekley and Juliette Daries/Stefanie Silva, defeating their opponents 6-4 6-3. Madison Weekley and Iman Khan recorded straight set wins in their duals and then senior Juliette Daries helped shut the door with an exciting three-set win over Northern Illinois' Irmak Budak, 4-6 6-1 6-2. MiaAngelina Ruja and Olivia Rook were forced to three sets to prolong the match but Khan, Weekley and Daries were able to secure dual victories to give the Gaels their seventh win of the season.
Northern Illinois was a 20+ win program this season and fell in the MAC Championship match to Buffalo, their first ever finals appearance in their conference championship. Full match results for both NIT matches can be found below:
