160 AND COUNTING, 100 AND COUNTING
Sophomore point guard Joshua Dent is now working on a streak of 160 consecutive minutes without leaving the floor. He currently leads the WCC and ranks 18th in the country, playing 35:45 per game on average. Dent also reached triple digit assists for the season against Santa Clara. The Gaels have now had a 100+ assist point guard in seven straight seasons, as Dent joins the likes of Augustas Marciulionis (2023-24 and 2024-25), Logan Johnson (2022-23), Tommy Kuhse (2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22).
AUSTRALIAN HERITAGE NIGHT
On Wednesday night's contest, Saint Mary's, partnered with the Australian Consulate, will host their annual Australian Heritage Night. The Aussie Pipeline has long been synonymous with Saint Mary's Basketball, with 25 Australian student-athletes playing for Head Coach Randy Bennett during his 25 year tenure. Currently, the Gaels have three Australian Nationals on their roster, Joshua Dent, Rory Hawke and Harry Wessels. Some of the most notable Gaels from Saint Mary's include Adam Capron (Australian National Team Head Coach), Daniel Kickert (First Player in Program History to Reach 1800 pts), Patty Mills (16 year NBA Veteran), Matthew Dellavedova (Program's All-Time Leading Scorer, 9 year NBA Veteran) and Jock Landale (Current Memphis Grizzly).
ABOUT THE BEAVERS
After a fifth place finish in their first of a two year stint as an affiliate member of the WCC, the Oregon State Beavers have struggled in the early goings of 2025-26, sitting tied for 7th in the early conference standings. After a 3-5 start, it seemed like the Beavs had cracked the code, winning four of their final five heading into WCC play, but haven't been able to string together consecutive wins since. Head Coach Wayne Tinkle is now in year 12 at the helm of the Oregon State program, and hopes to finish this season strong before his team returns to the new-look Pac-12. Like the Gaels, the Beavs are a physical team that get to the line quite a bit, ranking top-two in the conference in free throws made, free throws attempted and free throw percentage. That fact is personified by leading scorer Josiah Lake II, who has scored 36% of his points this year at the stripe. This will be the seventh all-time meeting between the Gaels and Beavers, and their final meeting as WCC foes (not including a potential postseason matchup). The series is currently tied at three games apiece.
ABOUT THE PILOTS
Portland is tied with Oregon State in the seventh place spot in the conference, and defeated their in-state rival a little over a week ago. After suffering a six game losing streak between Dec. 17 and Jan. 4, the Pilots have thrown themselves back into contention winning three of their last four. They will come in fresh, against the Gaels, having no game this week prior to the Saturday meeting in Moraga. Now in his fifth year at Portland, Head Coach Shantay Legans hopes he can keep the recent momentum rolling, as he chases to get back to the 19 win mark he experienced in his debut season at the helm of the Pilots. This year's team has been led by point guard Joel Foxwell, who ranks in the top-10 in the country in assists, while leading the team, averaging nearly 15 points per game. In their meeting earlier this season in Moraga, the Gaels were able to keep Foxwell in check, to the tune of just nine points and six assists en route to a 78-57 victory. This will be the 108th all-time meeting between the Gaels and Pilots, with the Gaels winning 77 of those previous 107.
