MBB | Gaels Look to Extend Home Winning Streak Against Washington State
1/7/2026 2:00:00 PM | Men's Basketball
MORAGA, Calif. — Coming off of a three game week, the Saint Mary's Gaels (15-2, 4-0 WCC) will enjoy six days off from competition before closing out their three game homestand, welcoming in the Washington State Cougars (8-9, 3-1 WCC). The Gaels are one of three teams left unbeaten in conference play, but sitting at 3-1 and winners of five of their last six, the Cougs are hot on their tails.

GOING FOR 20
In Saint Mary's Men's Basketball program history, there has been only one 20+ consecutive home game winning streak, as the Gaels won 23 straight inside UCU Pavilion between February 21, 2021 and November 30, 2022. That number could move from one to two, however, on Saturday, as the Gaels go for their 20th consecutive home win, dating back to December 28, 2024. The Gaels ran the table at home against the WCC last year, and kept the momentum rolling by going unbeaten at home in non-conference play to start 2025-26. Currently at 19 straight home wins, the Gaels have already tied their second longest home winning streak in program history, and will look to keep it rolling in front of their home fans against Washington State on Saturday.
DID THE HOOP GET WIDER?
This is a question that redshirt freshman Liam Campbell might be asking himself since the start of conference play. Over his first four contests, the Meridian, Idaho product has been stellar, shooting 9-13 (69.2%) from the field, 5-7 (71.4%) from three and 5-6 (83.3%) from the stripe. Averaging seven points per game in conference contests, Campbell continues to be the Gaels leading scoring guard off the bench.
ABOUT THE COUGARS
After a rocky start to the 2025-26 campaign, the Cougars have turned what was a 3-8 record into 8-9, following wins in five of their last six. Their 3-1 conference record puts them just a game out of first place (where the Gaels sit alongside Gonzaga and Santa Clara). In his second season at the helm, David Riley has led the Cougars in their two year soiree into the WCC as an affiliate member, and hopes to finish even higher than the sixth place finish he led his program to in their debut season in the WCC. It is almost a completely new team for the Cougs, who lost their top five scorers from a year ago. This year's team has been paced offensively by true freshman Ace Glass, who is the only Washington State player to average double-digit scoring at 15.5 points per game, including a 40 point outpouring against Arizona State. This will be just the fifth all-time meeting between the Gaels and Cougs, with Saint Mary's leading the all-time series 3-1.
