GAELS OUTLOOK
Five-Match Unbeaten Streak Ends in Portland…
Saint Mary's headed to the Pacific Northwest last weekend for its first West Coast Conference road trip and dropped matches to both Portland and Seattle U, ending its five-match unbeaten streak. The Gaels had gone 1-0-4 over their last five matches including a wild 3-3 draw to No. 12 Creighton back on September 10. They also kicked off WCC play with a 1-1 draw at home to Bay Area rival San Francisco last weekend to cap off their longest unbeaten streak since the 2024 season. Saint Mary's will return to Moraga this week to take on Pacific in search of its first conference win.
Kobey Secures Three Points on Pacific Northwest Road Trip…
Cameron Kobey has been one of the most productive midfielders in the WCC this season and added to his sophomore campaign with a goal and an assist against Seattle U on Saturday. The Arizona native scored the opening goal to put the Gaels up 1-0 and then also assisted the second goal late in the match. This was the second match of the season in which Kobey has recorded a goal and an assist in the same game, and he leads the Gaels offense with five goals and three assists through his 12 games played. Kobey is one of just two players to have started all 12 games this season, and his 13 points is the most in a single-season since Riley Lynch had eight goals and five assists good for 21 points in 2023. Kobey will look to score in back-to-back games for the third time this season as Saint Mary's hosts Pacific this Saturday.
Series History…
Saint Mary's holds an all-time record of 10-8-3 over Pacific dating back to 1978. The Tigers were original charter members of the WCC back in the 50's but left for the Big West in 1971 and spent 42 years there. They rejoined the WCC in 2013 and, since then, are just 3-10-1 against the Gaels. Pacific has gotten the best of Saint Mary's though over the past two seasons with wins in 2024 and 2025. Head coach Adam Cooper and the Gaels will look to get back in the win column with their first home victory over the Tigers since 2023.
ABOUT THE TIGERS (2-7-3, 1-0-1 WCC)
Pacific enters week three of West Coast Conference action with an overall record of 2-7-3 and a 1-0-1 conference record. The Tigers are one of five teams to start conference play unbeaten after grabbing their first win over Santa Clara last week, 2-1. The two sides are eerily similar entering the week, as both Saint Mary's and Pacific have scored 17 goals on the season, but also rank one and two in goals allowed in the WCC. Key results on the season include wins over Utah Tech and Santa Clara and draws with UC Davis, San Jose State and Seattle U in their conference opener.
Xavier Cisneros leads the team with six goals on the season, good for third most in the WCC. The true freshman has played in all 12 matches for the Tigers and has really come on in the scoring department as of late. The Turlock native has a pair of braces on the season and goals in each of his last two matches. Ghanaian forward Josephat Yangyuoru comes in next with three goals over his ten starts for Pacific.
The Tigers are led by one of their program greats in Andres Ochoa, who was named the head coach following the 2025 season. Ochoa was a four-year starter for the Tigers from 2014-17, led them to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2016 and 2017 and is also the program's all-time assist leader with 12.
Saturday's match can be streamed live on ESPN+ and tickets can be bought online at smcgaels.com/tickets.
