BVB | Red Hot Gaels Set for Home Opener Against Pacific and Washington
3/19/2026 9:00:00 AM | Women's Beach Volleyball
MORAGA, Calif. — After a perfect 4-0 weekend that saw them drop just one point in that stretch, the Saint Mary's beach volleyball team rides momentum, as they welcome Pacific and Washington to Shaw and Knudsen Courts this Saturday and Sunday. The Gaels will see the Huskies and Tigers each once on Saturday and Sunday, seeing Pacific at 9 a.m. on March 21 and 12 p.m. on March 22, while seeing UW at noon on March 21 and 3 p.m. on March 22.
The Gaels have been red-hot in the month of March, winning eight of their 10 contests thus far in the month. Five different Gael pairs are riding 4+ match winning streaks, headlined by Hannah Glick and Barett Nolan at the #5 flight, who have won all seven matches in their time playing together. A shakeup in the Gael rotation paid dividends for Coach Janice Harrer, moving Hannah Couch and Genevieve Bane to the ones (4-0 last week), debuting Angelina Bour and Clarissa Klein at the twos (4-0 last week), and playing freshmen Isla Johnson and Bella Reyes together at the threes (3-0 last week), helping the Gaels to their unbeaten week. Also last week, Hannah Couch appeared in her now program record 120th and 121st matches, more than any other Gael to don the beach volleyball uniform.
Pacific is coming off of their first two wins of the season this past week, and will see the Gaels for the third and fourth times this season. Their two wins this year already mark their high since the 2021 campaign. The Tigers also scored their first point against the Gaels since 2022, last week, as the third flight of Kelea Saxton Vaka and Abby Miller logged a highly competitive 19-21, 21-17, 17-15 match. Second year head coach Jaida Ward hopes that all of these are signs of good things to come for her program.
The Huskies of Washington are off to an 8-8 start to the campaign that features wins against Gael familiar foes Pepperdine, Southern Miss and Houston Christian. Upperclassmen duo of Ella Tyus and Sarah Wilcock have been standouts for first year head coach Steve McFadden, who spent the previous three seasons as an assistant coach on staff in Seattle. This will be just the fourth all-time meetings between these two programs, and the first not taking place on neutral sand.
