MORAGA, Calif. — The regular season has come to an end for the Saint Mary's beach volleyball team, and the Gaels added another win to their program record tally, picking up their 25th with a 5-0 sweep of San Francisco. As it was the final home match of the season, the Gaels celebrated Senior Day, honoring their seven seniors, Alisia Silverthorn, Barett Nolan, Clarissa Klein, Hannah Glick, Genevieve Bane, Angelina Bour and Hannah Couch in a pregame ceremony. Even more special, all seven seniors played into today's contest and logged victories.
Clarissa Klein and Angelina Bour started the day off with a victory for the Gaels at the twos. Bour joined elite company, becoming just the fourth ever Gael to win 70 matches, joining Emily Bible, Hannah Couch and Lindsey Knudsen. Bella Reyes and Alisia Silverthorn made it 2-0 at the twos, with the Gaels' ones, threes and fives all having a chance to secure the clinching point. It turned out to be the ones, as Zoe Joshua and Genevieve Bane gritted out a three set win, taking set one 21-12, before dropping set two 21-19, and taking a highly competitive third set 22-20. For good measure, the threes (Hannah Couch/Isla Johnson) and the fives (Barett Nolan/Hannah Glick) both also won in straight sets to finish off the sweep. Couch's win was her 83rd career victory, tying her for most all-time in program history.
The Gaels now shift their focus to postseason play, as they will head to Santa Monica for the West Coast Conference Beach Volleyball Championship. That tournament will span from April 23-24 in a double elimination format.
