SAN BRUNO, Calif. — The Saint Mary's offense slugged its way to a series win over LMU this weekend, hitting .404 with a team OPS of 1.056 for the weekend. Leading that charge was junior third baseman Sam Buckley, who was the toughest out for Gaels all weekend, earning her third West Coast Conference Player of the Week honor this season, and the eighth time in her career.
Buckley was a near impossible out this week, leading the Gaels to two of three wins against the LMU Lions, securing the Gaels their third consecutive WCC Title share. Buckley came to the plate 11 times, reaching seven of those, including a pair of home runs to add to her program record tally, now with 28. Buckley's homer in game one provided the Gaels with their first run and sparked a three run inning, giving them their first lead of the series on Friday. In game two, her homer was a key insurance run in a 6-1 victory, and in game three, she led off the fourth with a single, and scored on a Taylor Lane home run that gave the Gaels a lead they would not relinquish. Buckley now ranks second in the conference with a .489 on-base percentage, third with a .730 slugging percentage and fifth with 10 home runs for the season.
Buckley will look to lead the Gaels to at least one more victory this week against Santa Clara, as Saint Mary's needs just one more win to clinch its second NCAA Regional berth in three years.
