Saint Mary's College Athletics Gaels
Angelica Terrel 8/30

Angelica Terrel

2025 marked the first season with Coach Angelica Terrel serving as the Gaels lead assistant coach, following the departure of Emily Montanez to Cal State Monterey Bay. In her first year in this role, the Gaels won 28 games, and were crowned WCC Champs for the second straight year. In two years on staff, Coach Terrel doesn't know anything other than championship softball, as the Gaels have won both of their WCC Titles with her on staff. Working primarily with the Gaels catchers, Saint Mary's has erased 50 attempting base stealers in the last two years, and has had a catcher on the all-conference team in both of her years on staff.

Coach Terrel joined Coach Sonja Garnett’s staff for the 2023-24 season. Terrel came to Saint Mary’s from Academy of Art, just across the Bay in San Francisco, where she served as an Assistant Coach under Head Coach Nikki Gentile.

Coach Terrel worked with the Gaels catchers in 2024. That group erased 14 potential base stealers, the most since 2015. SMC also saw a sharp decline in the numbers of both passed balls and wild pitches, showing the improvements of the Gaels behind the dish under Coach Terrel's leadership.

While at Academy of Art, Terrel oversaw operational duties for the softball program in a split role of Assistant Coach and Director of Operations. In addition to her on-field coaching responsibilities, Terrel oversaw travel planning, gear distribution, student-athlete academic success, budgeting, facility maintenance and community service efforts. Two of Coach Terrel’s student-athletes earned All-Conference honors, while six were named Easton/NFCA All-American Scholar-Athletes. Prior to her time at Academy of Art, Terrel served as an Assistant Coach at Notre Dame de Namur during the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season. She also has coached youth softball, heading the U14 510 Pride Softball Club.

Terrel enjoyed a four-year career playing at San Francisco State, where she appeared in 142 games and racked up 80 hits and 42 RBI. Serving as the Gators starting catcher for much of her career, Terrel eliminated 34 potential base stealers behind the plate.

She graduated from San Francisco State in 2018 with a B.A. in psychology. She continued her education at the University of San Francisco, where she graduated with her M.A. in sports management in 2021.
