The search for a new Assistant Coach for Saint Mary's Head Softball Coach Sonja Garnett yielded standout candidate Frankie Hammoude, who was officially been added to the SMC staff beginning in the 2024-25 academic year.
"We are thrilled to have Frankie joining our staff!" exclaimed Coach
Sonja Garnett, "She is a local athlete who is passionate about developing athletes and making a positive impact in their lives. She has played this game at the national and pro level and will use her experience and expertise to impact our hitting staff."
The Gaels primary hitting coach in 2025, Saint Mary's offense saw record breaking output under Coach Hammoude's guidance. Led by All-Region leadoff hitter Sam Buckley, the Gaels led the WCC in home runs and slugging percentage, en route to their second straight WCC title. Buckley individually broke the program single season home run, run scored and RBI records, all of which had stood unchallenged for at least a decade. Coach Hammoude also worked with the Gaels infielders, part of a defense that led the conference in fielding percentage for the second straight year.
A 2023 graduate of new WCC affiliate member Oregon State, Hammoude was one of the all-time greats for the Beaver Softball program, as she graduated as the program's all-time leader with 53 home runs, while ranking second in program history with 143 RBI and third with 114 walks. Following her freshman season at Oregon State, Hammoude played for Team USA in the Junior World Cup, helping America to a gold medal over Japan. She was a four time All-Pac12 honoree, including earning first team honors in 2021 and 2022, and was also honored as a third team All-American in 2022. Following her time at Oregon State, Hammoude played professionally for Athlete Unlimited Softball, appearing in eight games in 2023.
As a Coach, Hammoude has earned her stripes in the youth ranks, both as a private instructor for Next Level Baseball and Softball Academy as well as an Assistant Coach at her alma mater, Bishop O'Dowd. She has worked with over 100 athletes ranging from age 8 to 18 at Next Level Academy, while helping O'Dowd to their first WACC Championship since her playing days in 2024.
Originally hailing from Oakland, Hammoude prepped at Bishop O'Dowd High School, graduating in 2018 after a storied career that saw her hit 0.498 with 34 home runs and 145 RBI in four varsity seasons.
