Ahead of the 2018-19 season, the Saint Mary's women's basketball team hosted an inaugural Meet the Gaels dinner earlier this month. The Meet the Gaels dinner was designed to meet the Gaels in order to learn more about the team and get a preview for the upcoming season.
There were over 200 RSVPs for the event including the team's 15 players and six staff members. The evening featured a cocktail hour followed by dinner with a brief introduction of the team and staff. The team sold prize drawing tickets throughout the night for a chance to win 1 of 14 themed prize baskets that were created by each player, including one from each of the players' hometowns.
Following dinner, Learie Jones (who acted as the event's emcee) hosted a fireside chat with head coach Paul Thomas prior to the live auction. The live auction items included coach for a day, a team experience, Raiders tickets, dinner at Thomas' house and a trip for two to New Orleans to join the team on their road trip in December.
"Meet the Gaels was an incredible evening," said Thomas. "It was a great chance for our parents, fans, and boosters to learn more about our team of wonderful student-athletes and we were able to raise some funds to help our women's basketball program. Thank you to the help from our local parents and our development staff."
The Gaels are gearing up for their first game of the season against Wyoming on Nov. 9 at 6:30 p.m in McKeon Pavilion.
