Saint Mary's will have two singles players in the semifinals on Sunday as well as one doubles team in the final round.
MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's had another productive day at their home tournament on Saturday and will play in three semifinals or finals matches on the final day of the SMC Invitational.
Headlining doubles action for the Gaels was the duo of Mariia Kozyreva and Aubane Ville who turned in a dominant 8-2 win over Choy/Madurawe of Stanford. Kozyreva and Ville will face Washington's Makrova/Pick in the finals tomorrow after they earned an 8-5 win over Santa Clara in the semifinals.
Two Gael freshmen will be playing in their respective singles semifinals matches as well on Sunday. In the A bracket, Chloe Goyette picked up straight set wins over Bay Area rivals from San Jose State and San Francisco to advance to the semis. Goyette will be facing Maria Smith from Cal at 10:30 a.m.
Liesl Pieters also advanced to the semifinals in her B bracket on Saturday with a 6-4, 7-6(1) win over Sofia Wicker from Sac State and a commanding 6-3, 6-1 victory against Pacific's Ioana Popescu in the quarterfinals.
