Saint Mary's had a tough second day of competition, as Gaels Mariia Kozyreva and Chloe Goyette picked up wins in their respective brackets.
BERKELEY, Calif. — Saint Mary's women's tennis capped of Day 2 of the Cal Invite with a number of wins that propelled the team into the third day of competition.
THE DRAW
In doubles competition on Saturday, Saint Mary's had a tough day of matches. In the Blue Flight bracket, Clementine Clement and Liesl Pieters advanced past Zeynel/Wo from Cal on injury grounds. However, the Gael's duo later fell in the semifinals to Cal's Rovenqvist/Hauger with a score of 8-5. Similarly, Chloe Goyette and Mariia Kozyreva lost to vonEbbe/Bryant from Davis in a 8-5 set. In the doubles Gold Flight bracket, Jordan Harris and Aubane Ville were unable to overcome BYU's Smith/Beckman and dropped the close match 8-6.
The Gaels competed in the singles section of the invite, playing three matches on Saturday. In the Blue Flight, Clementine Clement dropped her match against Julia Rosenqvist from Cal 6-2, 6-0. Mariia Kozyreva from Saint Mary's defeated SF's Maddie Pothoff 6-2, 6-2 in a strong match. In the Gold Flight quaterfinals, Aubane Ville was defeated by USF's Rita Colyer in a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 match.
In the consolation rounds, Goyette defeated Cal's Alexis Nelson 7-6, 6-3 while Jordan Harris dropped her match against Nevada's Melissa Hutcher 6-3, 6-1.
