Saint Mary's opens their season tomorrow at the Cal Invitational.
BERKELEY, Calif. — The Saint Mary's women's tennis team opens their fall season at the Cal Fall Invitational in Berkeley at the Hellman Tennis Complex and Channing Tennis Courts on Sept. 28-30.
TOURNAMENT INFO
At this year's annual invitational, there will be players from BYU, Cal, Cal Poly, UC Davis, Fresno State, Nevada, Sacramento State, Santa Clara, San Francisco and UC Santa Barbara competing alongside the Gaels. Live streams and scores are available by clicking here.
Representing the Gaels at the Cal Fall Invite will be three doubles teams consisting of Mariia Kozyreva/Chloe Goyette, Clementine Clement/Liesl Pieters, and Jordan Harris/ Aubane Ville. All six players will also be competing in the singles portion of the tournament.
2017 SEASON
Saint Mary's is coming off a 13-9 record last season and will be bringing along the three newcomers, Chloe Goyette, Jordan Harris, and Lisel Pieters to this year's squad.
The Gaels advanced to the WCC Semifinals in 2017 after roaring back against BYU in the quarterfinals to win 4-3 before ultimately falling to No. 11 Pepperdine. Saint Mary's finished conference play 6-3 and had an impressive 6-1 record at home.
Kozyreva and Clement will bring the bulk of the singles' playing experience to the court for the Gaels as the duo combined for 12 wins in the spring. Kozyreva was the Gaels top singles player last season while Clement earned most of her starts in the three spot.
Saint Mary's went 28-23 on the doubles' court last year and will look to build upon that success once again. The Gaels got a huge help from their doubles' teams in conference play with a 13-9 record and also had two wins over nationally ranked opponents.
KOZYREVA RANKED
The sophomore Kozyreva enters the 2018 season as the No. 85 women's singles after finishing last season ranked 122th. Kozyreva had a terrific fall and won last year's Cal Invitational doubles crown and also had a big win against BYU's Mayci Jones in the WCC quarterfinals.
