Saint Mary's played multiple hard-fought matches on Saturday afternoon, but came up short against the Cardinals.

STANFORD, Calif. — In their spring opener, Saint Mary's women's tennis forced close matches Saturday afternoon, but could not overcome No. 1 Stanford as the Cardinals came out on top over the Gaels, 4-0.

In singles play, Mariia Kozyreva led Stanfords' top singles player, No. 103 Michaela Gordon, in a 6-3, 4-3 match that ultimately went unfinished. Both Clementine Clement and Aubane Ville's singles matches also went unfinished.

On the doubles courts, both Clement/Goyette and Abdelouahid/Pieters had hard-fought matches, but fell 6-4 and 6-3, respectively. The doubles match with Kozyreva/Ville and No. 13 Arbuthnott/Gordon went unfinished.

The Gaels will next face either Washington State or Southern Methodist on Sunday at noon as the winner will then secure a spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
