SB | Gaels Sweep Doubleheader Against Jaspers, Bison

The Gaels won both of their games at the Saint Mary's Tournament on Friday and left their opponents to just one run.

MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's pitching shined on Friday as the Gaels' swept their afternoon doubleheader for the first time this season.

Game 1
Saint Mary's 8, Manhattan 0 (5)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Gaels' offense erupted for four runs in the bottom of the fifth to mercy rule the Jaspers (6-7) in the opening game of the doubleheader.

After Saint Mary's put across three runs on four singles and a couple of Manhattan errors in the inning, Dylan Linton delivered the knockout blow with a run-scoring triple to right center. Pinch runner Mazzie Davies would score the eighth and final run for the team.

Sofia Earle and Eileen Perez combined to throw five shutout innings for SMC to give the Gaels their fourth win of the year. Perez did not allow a hit in three innings of relief and retired eight of the 11 batters she faced.

Linton's triple marked her third hit of the game and the fourth time she reached base in the contest. The center fielder also recorded her first stolen base of the year. Fellow senior Bailey Lotz went 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Jaymee Campbell had a 3-for-3 game with three runs batted in.

Campbell helped crack the game open in the third inning with a two RBI double to make it a 4-0 Gael advantage and knocked in another run two innings later with a single.

Game 2
Saint Mary's 2, Bucknell 1

HOW IT HAPPENED

A two-run fourth inning fueled by two errors and a pass ball was all Saint Mary's needed to get past the Bison (9-14) in the afternoon contest.

Kalissa Heihn tied the game with a single to score Lotz who had reached earlier in the frame on a dropped fly ball. Two batters later, the freshman came around to score the eventual game-winning run on a pitch that bounced off the Bison catcher's glove.

Eryn McCoy nearly went the distance for the Gaels with 6.2 innings pitched and no earned runs allowed. Earle entered in relief and made just one pitch to notch her second save of the year and secure the win.

Heihn led the Gaels' offense with two hits while Abbey Mariani, Jayda Alaan, and Lotz picked up the other three hits for the team.
