MORAGA, Calif. – Propelled by a five-run, seventh inning, the Gaels completed the comeback to win game two against the Toreros 6-3. Saturday's matchup was presented by 5A-Rent-A-Space.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Junior Ryan Novis was walked to lead off the bottom of the second inning before senior Austin Chauvin drilled a hit that was fumbled by the shortstop, putting runners on first and second. Sophomore JC Santini then sent a single to left field that had Novis going to home, but he was called out on the tag at the plate for the second out of the inning. The Gaels couldn't bring in the runners as the next batter struck out and the inning was over.
The Toreros recorded their first hit of the game in the top of the fourth inning on a single to the left side. The next batter grounded into a fielder's choice and the runner at second was called out, but the following batter hit a deep double to left field that scored the runner on first and put San Diego up 1-0.
With two outs and a runner at second after being hit by a pitch and then advanced on a fielder's choice, Chauvin bobbled a grounder at first base to put runners at the corners. A wild pitch scored the runner on third and gave San Diego the 2-0 advantage.
With junior Kevin Milam on first and two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Novis lined a single into right field that advanced Milam to third base. The Gaels were unable to bring any runners across the plate and the sixth inning came to an end.
Junior Andrew Shebloski was walked to begin the bottom of the seventh inning followed by a base hit to left field from freshman Bryce Willits. Conor Thane then laid down a successful bunt and loaded the bases with no outs for Gio Diaz. Diaz popped up to get San Diego the first out of the inning, but Haus was then walked in the next at-bat and brought in the first run for the Gaels. A pass ball then scored Willits from third followed by a two-RBI double from Joe Vranesh that brought in Haus and Thane. Novis then hit a single up the middle that scored Milam before the inning ended with the Gaels on top 5-2.
San Diego was able to bring in their third run in the top of the eighth after a double up the right field line that ended the day for Waldichuk. Michael Hobbs then came in to pitch relief and got the Gaels out of the innings still maintaining the two-run lead.
Willits drove a solo shot over the right field wall to extend the Saint Mary's lead to three runs.

"We got big hits in the seventh inning and we were able to get to their pitching," said head coach Eric Valenzuela. "Ken pitched really well today and was able to pick up the win which was great.'
