MSOC | No. 7 Gaels Head to Bakersfield This Week

No. 7 Saint Mary's will play only one match for the remainder of the week with a Friday night contest against CSU Bakersfield.
MORAGA, Calif. — No. 7 Saint Mary's (4-0) returns to the pitch this week for a single weekend match against CSU Bakersfield on Friday. The road contest kicks off at 7 p.m. and links for the live stream and stats can be found on the team's schedule page.
The Gaels jumped up one spot in the national rankings to seventh after picking up two wins since the previous poll was released. On Friday, SMC grinded past a physical Grand Canyon team for a 1-0 win and most recently defeated San Jose State on the road, 5-2.
Anders Engebretsen and Sebastian Schacht were instrumental in the team's come-from-behind win in San Jose with seven and five points in the match, respectively. Engebretsen tallied a hat trick, including the equalizer and two more goals in the final three minutes of play, while Schacht scored the game-winner and picked up an assist on Engebretsen's first score.
Engebretsen now leads the nation in points with 14 on six goals and two assists. He has recorded a point in all four of the team's matches thus far.
ABOUT CSU BAKERSFIELD
The Roadrunners are 1-3 to begin their year and are coming off a 5-2 victory over Sacramento State on Sunday. The Gaels will be the second top-10 team CSUB has already this season after facing No. 10 Duke in their second match which resulted in a 2-1 loss.
Despite their early losses, the Runners have scored in every match they've played and are averaging over two goals per. Senior Niklas Korber leads the team with three goals and seven points while his teammates Carlos Armendariz and Tom Shepherd have also scored twice this year.
The Gaels are 2-1-3 all-time against the Runners with the last matchup coming in 2012. SMC has not lost to CSU Bakersfield since the teams' first meeting in 2007.
